🔬 The Ultimate Guide to Importing and Cutting SVGs

Understanding how to correctly import and prepare Scalable Vector Graphics (SVGs) is the single most important step for high-quality Cricut projects. Unlike JPEGs or PNGs, SVGs contain pathways, allowing your machine to know exactly where to cut, regardless of size. **Always verify the dimensions** after importing into Cricut Design Space, as scaling issues are common with files from external sources.

⚠️ Troubleshooting Common SVG Issues:

  1. Issue: Design separates into many pieces.
Solution: After importing, select all layers in the design panel and click the **Attach** button to keep cuts relative to each other, or use **Weld** if you want to permanently merge shapes for a single, continuous cut.
  2. Issue: Cuts are too large or too small.
Solution: Before clicking “Make It,” check the Mat preview. If the design is not the size you intended (e.g., 5 inches for an ornament), go back to the Canvas and manually input the correct dimensions in the size box.
  3. Issue: The file is not uploading correctly.
Solution: Ensure the file extension is `.svg`. If it is a compressed ZIP folder, you **must** extract the files first before attempting to upload. Cricut cannot read zipped files directly.

Advanced Template Customization

Many of our premium templates are designed with multiple colors and layers. To customize these: **Ungroup** the layers, change the color of the individual paths, and then **Group** them back together before sending to the Mat. This allows you to cut different colors of vinyl or cardstock without having to manually separate them across multiple projects.
